i know from reading around here alot that it seem to be a must to use vb6 to code for this engine but i was wondering, is there actualy a conflict anywhere by using another program than vb6 to edit the codes and compile into .exe? |

Visual Basic 6 is only compilable in the Visual Basic 6 IDE from the Visual Studio 6 software package. VB6 as a language is proprietary to Microsoft and no other compiler exists for it. |

You can write code in notepad or whatever you want... But you lose the intellisense and the ability to compile. Use VB6. (the intellisense is what makes VB so nice to work with in the first place...) |

Well, DarkBasic is a different language. That IDE might suggest things to you that don't work in VB6. What's the problem with using the IDE that's made for the language? |

well i dont have vb6 and since there's already darkbasic pro installed and ive used it before... just trying to save myself the trouble of learning how to use a new program i guess( and getting a new program aswell...) Engine looks nice so far, reminds me alot of Konfuze and Elysium. Only thing is i cant seem to save my maps with this one |

Mirage source is not an engine, it is the basic source code for a generic 2D ORPG. Konfuze, Elysium, Eclipse are all engines that were designed using this code as a base and building up from it. If you don't know how to program you either need to learn and program in every feature you want to by hand, or else go to an engine that is pre-compiled and use that to develop your game. |

Those things worth learning take time. Stick with it and you'll have a good product. And get VB6... it's a fairly straightforward and easy IDE to use. Since you have experience with others, you should catch on quickly. |

I actually started out using DarkBASIC myself and although VB looks a bit intimidating, if you can get your hands on the program it'll definitely help you. I learned how to program in VB6 from viewing the source codes here (and royally screwing up a few vanilla copies as well). Once you get the basic idea of it you'll start to notice that it's just a beefed up version of what you already know. |
