Just gonna announce the game and what not.

As you can see, nothing special from first glance. However, each row of tiles you see is from a different tileset. I save the tileset used for each tile, to the tile itself. This allows me to, since I store the tileset in the tile as a byte, to use up to 255 different tilesets per map.

If anyone wants more information on the game, now, just let me know and I'll give a background on the project.

This game will be based off of a very popular book series by the same name. However, it will take place 75 years BEFORE the books take place.

This is the new FPO. This project will be taking the place of FPO. Blue is most likely just gonna be dead. Simple as that. Lol.

That's pretty awesome. How'd you do that? If you're not as profiecient less chance of hitting?

I didn't think about adding something like that. Lol.

Basically, each item has a proficiency level requirement and a level requirement. You get 1 exp per kill towards each proficiency.

It's proficiency level * 1000 for the tnl. So, to get a level 3 dagger proficiency, you would need to kill 2000 mobs. :D

Damn. O.O

What are the benefits of having a high proficiency?

Stronger weapons and armor, as well as magic.

Higher the proficiency, the higher level your weapons, spells and armor can be. Also, there's a goal after you reach max level. Each proficiency has a max level of 100.

Makes sense. The more you use a weapon the better you will get (in most cases) and thus you can wield better more complicated weapons

Maybe add a slight addition to damage per level or 10 levels or something as another bonus. The more you use it the better you will use it no matter what ... lets say axe so you will be more effective and would cause more damage.

Right now, I'm working on all the base aspects of the system. After that, I'll add the tweaks. :D

Every game is copying off of something else. Any sense of originality was lost long ago. No such thing as original content these days, just things that are more known than others.

An anime uses the entire concept of your game. Who fails now?

Btw, the very first game to ever use a proficiency system is the ORIGINAL Final Fantasy 2.

man FF2. Good times. I like the system. Now I want to play your game even more Matt....

It's not even near ready to play. I don't even have a staff to develop the game, nor a host for the server. It's gonna be awhile. :D

Post subject:  Re: Sword of Truth Online

I might be able to host. If not I know someone who will host for free and 24/7 without lag :D

If you need any help just ask me and I'll help with what I can. I can map mostly o-o. That's all I do. I know SadScript too.

I doubt that...I'm not sure when FF2 came out (don't feel like googling it), but I've played old MUDs that had proficiency systems...and text based games probably came before FF2...but not sure.

Obviously we're assuming everything you say is hostile, and so we will also respond with hostility!

Then stop assuming. Matt is Matt and he says everything with characteristics of hostility.

The original FF2 was for the NES, only in Japan. It was released in 1988 on the Famicom/NES.

I was 2 years old when the game came out. That's before the personal computer and what not. So, I think it was the first game to have the proficiency system.

You're right matt, people didn't have PCs before the 80s. They were called Mini Computers way back when.

And I have no idea if Adventure has a proficiency system, just pointing out the MUDs have been around since the 70s.

:P

Thanks for pointing out my assholeness. :D I don't think anyone else would have caught it.

However, I don't count MUDs as games. ;)

The first GRAPHICAL game to do a proficiency system, is FF2.

The VERY FIRST game to ever do a proficiency system, is Dungeons & Dragons. ;)

Every single game ever created is a rip off of D&D, so nothing is original at all.

That's because D&D put like everything into it and it's mostly imagination. Which tops all of course >_>

Exactly. All games are derived from D&D in some way or another. Everything you can think of, someone did already while playing D&D.

For those of you who are going to say perverted things, trust me. My friends have done it..
